Greenfleet gains Greenhouse Friendly status
20 February 2008
Approved Abatement Provider status
Message from Sara Gipton, CEO Greenfleet.
Firstly, I would like to personally thank you for your organisation's ongoing support of the work that Greenfleet undertakes to reduce and offset harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
At Greenfleet we understand that you put a great trust in us to help you to achieve your environmental objectives and we take this responsibility very seriously. For this reason, we have taken the step of becoming an Approved Abatement Provider under the Federal Government's Greenhouse FriendlyTM initiative.
As more organisations begin to offer emission offsetting services we understand that organisations need to justify their choice of partner and demonstrate maximum environmental benefit to their stakeholders; protecting their reputation and their brand.
The Government's Greenhouse FriendlyTM initiative places strict requirements on Greenfleet by independently verifying:
Our approach to forest planting Our estimates of carbon taken up by the forests The security and survival of the forests Now that Greenfleet is approved under Greenhouse FriendlyTM we will begin to generate approved offsets, as a part of our broader planting program, over the next 12 months.
The initiative also places particular emphasis on 'additionality'; that is that the planting would not have occurred without your contributions to help reduce greenhouse gases. Combined with this is Greenfleet's commitment to biodiverse, native tree planting that helps to reduce salinity and soil erosion and provides habitat for native animal species.
These standards sit perfectly with Greenfleet's not-for-profit status, giving our supporters peace of mind that their investment will make a real difference.
We would be delighted to work with you to promote your support of Greenfleet to your internal and external stakeholders and thereby make the most of your contributions.
Another significant development is the recent release of the ACCC's Green marketing and the Trade Practices Act. We encourage you to read this document and review your own marketing materials accordingly.
